October 16 – 19 2008, Cinema House, St.Petersburg: First Festival of the Buddhist Feature and Documentary Films in the History of Russian Moving Picture
The program of the Festival consists of the films permeated with a philosophy of Tibetan Buddhism including both the cinema treasures created by the world-renowned movie makers, rare films which were made by the lamas and not available for the general audience, and documentary films on contemporary Tibetan Buddhism. These motion pictures show us the life of the lamas, monks, nuns and lay people of Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, as well as the integration of Tibetan Buddhism with the world of modern Western people. The plots unfold on inspiring mountain scenes, in the atmosphere of innocent authentic culture and unpretentious manners of Himalayans.
Buddhism in Contemporary World is the name for the photo exhibition which will be presented in the lobby of the Cinema House during the Buddhist Film Festival. The aim of this exhibition is to show today’s Tibetan Buddhism of the East and West. From October 17 to October 19 everybody is welcome to visit the White Lounge of the Cinema House in order to take part in 30 Minutes of Buddhist Theory and Practice which is our action and a nice chance to get familiar with the meditation practice and listen to ten-minute lecture on Buddhism. You can also attend the White Lounge in the evenings to listen to the lectures lead by Voytek Tratsevsky, Buddhist traveling teacher from Poland.
The main goal of the Buddhist Film Festival is to create the space of trust and mutual understanding between the followers of the Buddha Teaching and the people of St. Petersburg. Buddhist Film Festival is one of the landmark events that make up the program of Buddhism.ru, the third international festival of Tibetan Buddhism in Russia.
